SAE AS9100D Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation, Space, and Defense Organizations is the international management system standard for the Aircraft, Space and Defense industry. AS9100 is used by companies that design, develop, and/or produce aviation, space and defense products; and organizations providing post-delivery support, including the provision of maintenance, spare parts, or materials, for their own products.  The standard provides suppliers with a comprehensive quality system for providing safe and reliable products to the aerospace industry. AS9100 also addresses civil & military aviation requirements.

It contains the actual requirements an organization must comply with to become AS9100 registered. If the organization creates a Quality Management System which meets these requirements they can seek AS9100 Registration. This standard includes ISO 9001:2015 quality management system requirements and specifies additional aviation, space, and defense industry requirements, definitions, and notes.

This International Standard specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

All the requirements of this International Standard are generic and are intended to be applicable to any organization, regardless of its type or size, or the products and services it provides.
